The Oxford English Dictionary's First Edition Debuted Today
On February 1, 1884, the first fascicle of what would become the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) was published. Titled "A New English Dictionary on Historical Principles; Part 1: A–Ant", it marked the beginning of a monumental project to document the English language comprehensively.
