Mir Space Station's Final Journey
On March 23, 2001, the Russian Mir space station, a symbol of long-duration human spaceflight, concluded its 15-year operational life. After orbiting Earth over 86,300 times and hosting 28 long-duration crews and numerous international visitors, Mir was intentionally deorbited. Its remaining fragments fell into the Pacific Ocean, marking the controlled end of an era in space exploration and paving the way for the International Space Station.
