The Day 10 Days Vanished from the Calendar
On October 15, 1582, many Catholic countries experienced a unique calendar event. Following Pope Gregory XIII's papal bull "Inter gravissimas," the Julian calendar was replaced by the Gregorian calendar. To correct the accumulated error and realign the date with the spring equinox, ten days were skipped. The day after October 4, 1582, became October 15, 1582. This reform aimed to improve the accuracy of the calendar, especially for calculating Easter, and eventually became the world's most widely used civil calendar.
